#22 Quantity vs Quality

1.     What’s more important:  quantity or quality of Twitter followers?  Why?  What are your criteria for choosing people or brands to follow on Twitter?  Who are your top 5 favorite professional“tweeps” and why?  How many Twitter followers (besides your ORCO/MTSU tweeps) have you gained so far?  How many of these do you actually engage with on a regular basis?

Quality vs Quantity

Twitter is all about getting a statement across to a large group.
A group larger than any group before in social media.
A follower could be ANYONE.
With this is mind the QUALITY of your tweets takes Precedence.
It is what the message means not how many messages you can send that validates who a Twitter user is.

Quantity vs Quality

Twitter is all about  presenting yourself to a large group.
A group larger than any group before in social media.
A follower could be ANYONE.
With this is mind it is the QUANTITY of your tweets that takes precedence.
It is getting the attention of a follower that validates anything else you can put out that validates who a Twitter user is.

Consider Both : Qualintity

The battle rages on.

SadiSwaneySays:

I choose people to follow on Twitter who have something to offer. Something I can think on for more than .25 of a second. Something that resonates. Something that gets my thinker a thinkin. Something that encourages me to Tweet.

A few Tweeple I can't get enough of are;

Confession:
Although I have gained so many followers ( At least 100 more!) I do not engage with them as much as I should. I should definitely be the engage mac daddy at this point. The amount of articles Ive clicked through based on social media engagement is absurd. But! Their is still a barrier I haven't climbed over yet. Hopefully with my new Mac I will be more engaging!! These people deserve to know I like what they are putting out there! They should also know exactly how much I have learned from them. Its a working progress...

#19 Engagement

How can organizational communication professionals develop and practice more effective social Media engagement and networking skills? Provide at least three sources for further reading and EXPLORATION.

Networking and social Media met me civil war style on the battle field. We both had an idea of what to expect but neither actually expected things to be so blatantly upfront. Social Media doesn't sugar coat things. I mean how can you in 140 characters or less? I think this could be what keeps me coming back to it. Social media drives straight to the point. It shoots a direct route straight to the viewer.
Then as a viewer you are left with the choice to take it or leave it. with that being said getting your own ideas straight out without flaw to the right people is challenge.

From a searching seeking rushing frantic hungry sleepy excited anxious pumped up mentally drained full of information college student to my readers;
If you want to network get started!
-Make a point to recognize and mention the people and things you are interested in.
-Engage Engage Engage! the worst possible thing that could happen would be that the viewer of your information does not respond. If so? On to the next!
-In order to engage and Network effectively you have to believe that what you are producing matters enough to be read! You are as important as you think you are. Your ideas hold as much worth as you think they do!
-Lastly, Respond! If someone is interested in what you have to say show and interest in their interest for you. You do not have to think their information is great but the fact that they took an interest in your ideas is Great and. Keep connecting!

#18 Bzzzzzz

What dos the social media buzz work "engagement" mean? How is this similar/different from traditional interpersonal communication and relationships? What are three best practices for SMC engagement and networking?

Social Engagement is " building relationships, having great customer service, and attracting people to you through conversations and great content"

In other words Social Engagement is the connection to others through social media. This is different han than interpersonal relationships becasue you can be communicating without the physical aspect. You can also articulate ideas differntley. Instead of having to express and idea though verbal workds social media forces you to think before you speak.

#17 LISTEN

What does it mean to "listen" as a social media professional? Why is this so important and how can we improve our SMC listening skills? (Helpful hint: check out the academic journal article about listening provided in my bookmarks).

According to the academic journal article Lurking is one large component of listening in social media. Lurking is this idea that you watch and read and observe. Listening as a social media participator means that you are aware of what people are talking/tweeting/messaging about and using what you see hear and learn to establish a basis of what you want to present to other socia media users.

It is crucial that you learn what it means to listen.
The things that you "hear" directly relate to what you will say yourself.
We can improve our social media listening skills by "lurking" and researching.
We can also be better listeners by honing in on the things that matter to us so we convey those thoughts to others through our own blogs/posts/tweets/status.
